The Mission: to improve the outcome of children and adults with heart disease.
We will be raising funds for two charities – the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Little Hearts in Sri Lanka. The BHF are the largest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK and their vision is a world in which people do not die prematurely or suffer from cardiovascular disease (www.bhf.org.uk/about-us). Little Hearts is a project that is raising funds to build a cardiac and critical care complex in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which will allow the sickest children with severe heart disease to be treated (www.littlehearts.lk/about).
The Challenge: to cycle from the southernmost to the northernmost tip of Sri Lanka (Dondra to Point Pedro via the east coast, a distance of approximately 750km) between 11th and 19th June 2017.
The Team: 5 friends and colleagues, some of whom had not been on a bike regularly for 20 years at the start of this project! Divaka Perera (Consultant Cardiologist at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital, born in Sri Lanka), Rob Daniels (General Practitioner in Devon), Michael Marber (Professor of Cardiology at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital), Peter O’Kane (Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Bournemouth Hospital) and Shamindra Perera (the only non-medic in the team, born in Sri Lanka).
Your Donations: 100% of all funds raised will go to the two nominated charities; all costs related to travel, accommodation or the bike ride itself will be borne by the members of the team. You have the option of supporting either of these charities by clicking on the relevant donation link (if you would like to support both, please come back to our site and click the other as well).
We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.
